What is a SSL certificate?

The SSL certificate is a basic form of security for the transmission of your website's data. It is like a digital ID card for a website that shows it's trustworthy and can keep your information safe. It's like a secret code that encrypts information, such as your passwords or credit card numbers, so that nobody else can see it.

When you see the padlock icon and https at the beginning of a website's URL, that means it's using an SSL certificate to keep your information safe.

Benefits of having SSL secured website

Improved security

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) provides an encrypted connection between the user's web browser and the website's server, which helps to protect sensitive data from being intercepted or stolen by hackers.

Increased user trust

When users see the padlock icon in their browser's address bar, they know that their connection to the website is secure. This helps to build trust and confidence in your website and brand.

Better SEO

Google and other search engines give priority to websites that have SSL certificates. This means that having an SSL secured website can help to improve your search engine rankings and attract more traffic.

Compliance with industry standards

Many industries and regulatory bodies require websites to have SSL certificates, especially if they collect or transmit sensitive data such as personal information or payment details.

Remember

SSL certificates are available for FREE in the Advanced and Professional plan. You can also get one for just $50/year in our Standard plan. Check BOWWE Pricing for more information

HTTP vs HTTPS

HTTPS (HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure) and HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) are both protocols used to transfer data between a user's web browser and a website's server. The main difference between them is that HTTPS is a secure version of HTTP.

When you see the padlock icon and "https" in the website's URL, that means your information is being sent securely. So, it's better to use HTTPS whenever you can, especially when you're sharing sensitive information like your password or credit card number.
